Shabbat
At TBJ, we believe Shabbat should feel meaningful, relevant, and uplifting. Every Friday at 6 p.m., our Erev Shabbat services bring our community together in a warm and joyful way. Afterward, we continue the celebration with Kiddush and Motzi, giving everyone a chance to reconnect and unwind from the week.
Our Erev Shabbat Service can be viewed here.
Shabbat continues on Saturday mornings with Torah Study led by Rabbi Schuster at 9:30 a.m., followed by our Shabbat Morning Service at 10:30 a.m.—a time for learning, reflection, and shared tradition.
Shabbat Morning services can be viewed here.
While we don’t hold a weekly Havdalah service, we do offer special family programs throughout the year that include Havdalah. These moments are always beautiful, meaningful, and a wonderful way to close Shabbat together with light, song, and community.

Whether you’re preparing to join us for the first time or simply want to enjoy the music you already know by heart, we invite you to listen and connect.
Family Services
On the first Friday of every month, TBJ is filled with energy and community spirit during our family‑oriented Shabbat experience! We celebrate with a special Erev Shabbat Family Service, using a beautifully crafted booklet created by Rabbi Schuster just for these gatherings. After the service, everyone is invited to enjoy a delicious buffet‑style meal—an amazing opportunity to connect, unwind, and share Shabbat together. If you’re interested in attending a family service, you can RSVP here.
We also offer joyful family and children’s services during the High Holidays. Simchat Torah is a particularly meaningful moment, as it marks the Consecration celebration for our Kindergarteners. And throughout the year, our community comes together for festive, family‑friendly Hanukkah and Purim celebrations—filled with joy, tradition, and activities for all ages.
Visitors
Visitors are always welcome at TBJ, and we’re delighted to host students, families, and tour groups throughout the year. If you’re planning to visit with a group, please give our office a call at 515‑274‑4679 or email office@tbjdsm.org so we can ensure we’re prepared to accommodate everyone comfortably and make your experience as smooth and meaningful as possible.
Most people attending services choose to wear “business casual” attire, though there is truly no strict dress code. Many congregants come straight from work on Friday evenings, and students often arrive directly from school—school‑appropriate clothing is absolutely welcome.
As a Reform congregation, men are not required to cover their heads, and women are not required to cover their shoulders. For those who wish to wear them, we provide kipot (traditional skullcaps worn by men), and some women choose to wear them as well.
We’re grateful for every visitor who walks through our doors, and we look forward to welcoming you into our community.
