Summer Camp

Summer camp plays a special role in Jewish childhood. The two camps listed below are favorites among our congregational families, but they’re just a starting point—we encourage families to consider any Jewish summer camp that feels like the right fit.

TBJ is fortunate enough to be able to offer scholarships from the Lois & Ralph Copple Camp Fund for our congregational youth attending a Jewish overnight summer camp. Please reach out to Erin at office@tbjdsm.org for more information.

Engman Camp Shalom/Gan Shalom Summer Camp

Engman Camp Shalom (ECS) is a welcoming, accredited summer day camp where children grow, connect, and have fun in a safe and caring environment. Open to children of all faiths entering K–6th grade, ECS offers engaging programs that build confidence, friendships, and new skills while blending Jewish values with recreation and creativity.

Supported by the Jewish Federation of Greater Des Moines and backed by more than 80 years of camp tradition, Engman Camp Shalom provides a trusted and enriching summer experience—whether campers join us for one week or the whole summer.

Goldman Union Camp Institute

Goldman Union Camp Institute (GUCI) is a Reform Jewish summer camp in Zionsville, Indiana that has been building community and shaping young Jewish lives since 1958. With creative Jewish learning, arts, sports, and a caring staff, GUCI offers a warm and welcoming second home where campers grow, gain confidence, and form lifelong friendships.

Many return year after year—with most of the staff made up of former campers—passing down the traditions and spirit that make GUCI truly magical. A fun GUCI fact: currently three of the full-time staff members were TBJ kids!
