ZERA: Planting Seeds of Goodness

ZERA (זרע), the Hebrew word for “seed,” is Temple B’nai Jeshurun’s social action initiative dedicated to turning Jewish values into meaningful action. Inspired by Rabbi Neal’s 2025 Yom Kippur message and grounded in the principle of—repairing the world—ZERA brings together congregants of all ages to serve our community through acts of compassion, justice, and caring.

Through volunteer projects, collections, advocacy efforts, and partnerships with local organizations, ZERA seeks to address community needs while fostering connection, dignity, and mutual support. Each project represents a seed planted with purpose, helping to create positive and lasting change for our neighbors and the broader community.

Since its launch, ZERA has engaged Temple members in a variety of social action and community service initiatives, demonstrating the power of collective effort and shared responsibility. Whether through hands-on volunteering, donations, outreach, or educational opportunities, there are many ways to become involved.

At its heart, ZERA is built on the belief that meaningful change begins with small acts of kindness and grows through community. Together, we continue to plant the seeds of a more compassionate, just, and connected world.
